The person writing this is different than the one you will discover through the texts, photographs and videos. We have an Observer and a Artist.
The Observer is intrigued by what she has discovered about the Artist. There is something absolutely mesmerising about looking at someone else’s work as they are fully immersed in it. So much of one’s true self comes out. When one creates from that space, there is no hiding. Ultimately, that’s where one wants to be in order to create.
Over the years, unbeknownst to her, the Artist’s journey has led her to that space. She’s had some formal training in dance, theatre and music. She’s attended multi-disciplinary workshops in many different settings. She found herself interested in spirituality, helping herself, second chances, her own awareness. Everything seemed to have the same theme: being present, being in the now.
That’s a good strategy for creating and also for navigating life. There is only so much you can have control over. The anxiety that most of us feel is brought on because we are not present, we are not in the Now. We can’t change the past and we don’t know our future; the present is the only thing we can control. When you surrender to the present moment, amazing things can emerge.
The Artist likes being in that space. This is the only place where she can truly feel like herself, uninhibited, without any worries, anxiety, deadlines, nor bills. The utmost focus on the Work.
*****
The Observer and the Artist operate on separate planes: the Observer is trying to understand how and what the Artist creates and the Artist just is. They don’t speak the same language. All the Observer is getting is a rare glimpse of the true being of the Artist. How the Artist creates cannot be translated into words that the Observer can comprehend. The Observer longs to be in the same space as the Artist. It is absolutely possible as the Observer is already in that space.
Yet the Observer needs the Artist to remember: Life is a series of Nows.
